Unloving Love

'Everything I have ever done has been centred on feelings. It's easier to communicate emotions by inventing shapes that show how it feels.'
— Penny Goring

The visual identity and in-gallery letterings are conceived as a poetic graphic design language in which texts follow gentle spiral swirls. Typography flows on invisible curves and “dances” on moody color backgrounds inhabited by Goring’s works that stem from her personal processing of trauma, experiences of violence, structural austerity, misogyny, and the emotions associated with grief, fear, loss, panic, and powerlessness. The whole exhibition is designed as a dystopian landscape populated by severed heads, plague flowers, ominous storms, wounded horses, and melting trees.
